Support Bill 135: An Act to protect pupils with asthma
If your child has asthma, please express your concerns to the Ontario government about the need to have legislation for schools to protect children with asthma. Some of you may know about the tragic case of Ryan Gibbons, a 12-year-old grade 7 student who died after suffering an asthma attack at school in October 2012. He did not have access to his inhaler, which he was not allowed to carry.
The proposed legislation (Bill 135 - Ryan's Law) includes measures such as risk reduction strategies from asthma triggers, staff training, and a requirement for schools to permit students to carry their asthma medication.
Please take the time to write and/or call your local MPP and other government officials.
