Managing Anxiety
Having an allergy which can be life-threatening causes anxiety for some people. It is normal to worry about a serious reaction and feel alone because of your allergy. This can be challenging. But once you know what to do, you will find that being careful becomes a normal part of your life.

Here are some things that you can do to feel more in control of your situation:
  • Be informed and learn as much as you can about your allergy.
  • Prepare an Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan which explains how to reduce risks and treat a reaction. Share this with your family members, friends and co-workers, and, in the case of children, the people who care for them (e.g., teachers, daycare workers, babysitters).
  • Stay positive and focus on what you can have and not just what you cannot have.
  • Put your allergy in perspective. Even though some reactions can be fatal, they are rare and emergency treatment saves lives.
  • Join the Canadian Anaphylaxis Registry and become part of our community.
  • Join a local support group to share your experiences and learn from others. Click here to see if there is a support group in your area.
  • Remember to carry your auto-injector (Epipen®/Twinject®) at all times. Know how to use it and check expiry dates often - it can save your life.
  • Attend Anaphylaxis Canada events and connect with others affected by anaphylaxis.
